Hello readers :) So as you may have noticed, this is my blog where I post "poetry of life." You should know a few things first, though: 1. I mainly write in free verse. I find that rhyme often constricts my thoughts- instead, I tend to focus on imagery and symbolism and use paragraph structure, rhythm, and color to further reflect my ideas. 2. I wrote most of these poems a while ago- meaning, I don't really like most of them =P But a writer has got to start somewhere! So bear with me :) 3. I'm too scared to put ALL of my poetry up.. some of it is a bit too personal. So this is simply a preview of me. Thanks for reading! LOVE, Julie

Cuore (Heart)

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20  for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

O heart! Cuore mio-
Do not make haste to leap from your abode!
Do not rush to blend your beat with the rhythm of another.
Your lifeblood has been bought,
redeemed,
cleansed from self-love and bitter taste.

FORGET NOT whose lifeblood flows through your veins,
whose name you bear;
whose bride you will come to be.
Forsake not the pillar of Truth and Hope, your steadfast home!

Beat on, O heart; sound the drums of His calling;
touch every inch of this temple with your healing crimson tide!
Flow into this crown with thoughts of the Kingdom coming-
Hold fast! With your Savior sweetly abide.

Response

This is a response to  my last poem "Lace and Love." It is amazing how in everything that is going on in my heart and life God is speaking to me and working in me... 2 Timothy 2:9- God's word can never be bound!

"Under the shadow of Your wings"-
You, who can never be held down,
choked up,
hemmed in,
or wrapped around.

So much stronger than the chains that I hold on to-
Your fingerprints on my heart
Remind me of who You are-

And I'm completely open, under view..
yes, darkness is as light to You.
I can't escape sin's crushing weight,
so I will run to the One who took my place.

Lace and Love

I feel like writing a rather dramatic poem at this point.. thus I've got a mixture of words and a bit of rock and soul music floating around in my head. We'll see what comes out of the jumble..

Confined-
such pretty lace around these iron bars.
All the cracks in the ground
Mirror what once kept me alive.

Touch-
it is not sharp,
but neither is it kind

"Don't forget the china, dear";
but is it true what they cry?
We keep the lights low- yes,
for the truth hurts our eyes.

Shadows

My shadow cast against the pavement
reminds me of the darkness from within.
It is not completely dead;
with each breath I take, it also fights for air.

In the stillness, I long for the moonlight
to sink deeply into my pores,
to consume me;
to redefine me;
to own me.

His beams linger on the surface of my skin,
emphasizing its pale imperfections,
drawing me to my knees.
I hear his voice: a crescendo, andante con amore:
"Return to Me."

"A Single Teardrop", written May 2010

A single teardrop-

how much sorrow can it contain?

Falling slowly,

                         almost escaping

the grasp of time;

 Gathering momentum

as it rolls down the surface of her soul;

it breaks the prism into a thousand pieces.

"The Curse", Written 4-1-10

P.S. I wrote this poem before I heard about Twilight.. just so you know :)

With each breaking
of the dawn, the sun
lets out his battle cry.
Dodging white bullets he ascends
gracefully into the sky.

Up the same, sad hill
he must go- But look,
the earth is thriving below.

How he envies the growing
roots of the trees,
entwined in embrace;
How he longs to be
so firmly planted in his place.

One inch higher.
Each step more...
is one more fight for breath.
Yet higher he must climb;
He curses the pale, human candles:
"They would blow them out
if they could truly see her shine!"

Shining brightly was her dream, now lost;
She reaches out for him with an empty hope.
See all the flowers she has planted
while she waits for him!

"Tonight, I dreamed that we embraced,
but shortly it was through-
I will shine for her...
as I fade away, then tomorrow
I'll start anew."
